I don't know why or maybe I don't want to admit it but I stopped listening to Thrash Metal with after TESTAMENT's "The Ritual" masterpiece. I have heard some Thrash Metal, however I always considered this genre to be less sophisticated then other Metal genres, indeed that listening to some released in the beginning of the millennia only convinced me that I was right.
So in order to show that I'm brave I took on me to review a Thrash Metal band named SCORNAGE. I don't know these guys but I can say that this is there fourth release(showing some persistence); they refer to their music as more of a modern Thrash Metal.
The album starts with "Six Minutes To Fear" not a Thrash classic intro, however it did catch me off guard. The melodic sound and rhythms are amazing, incorporated with deep low end vocals creates an epic start for this album. After the intro comes a classic Thrash sound with melodic guitar riffs, all made in a great mixture. "At First I Hate" is another classic Thrasher, however with a twist. The usage of low to high pitched vocals level provides the song an amazing atmosphere alongside the melodic guitar strumming alongside the classic riffing of the genre. "Frozen Throne" very much like "Six Minutes To Fear". It harbors a great opening riff and drums followed with a spine chilling Scream. I have always loved a good intro with a good scream; the song is like all others I told you about as it keeps the same structure and rhythm styles.
Honorable mention goes to "Face The Blade" and "Stabbed Again". These are classic Metal outputs with melodic riffing and great vocals. Nonetheless, all the songs can be honorably mentioned because of the Achilles Heel of the album or maybe of the genre is that it's repetitive. The reason that these two are better than others on the album is due to their usage of assorted rhythms along with the incorporation of a melodic section. The majority of songs have this pattern, some are better and some are good. That is why these two are the best out of this selection.
This band is a behemoth, yet the repetitiveness damages the overall experience of the album; maybe we should blame the genre.
