Landkrieg
Scalpture

Scalpture has been active since 2009; they play death metal. And it's hard to find a band that is really close to what this band does. The theme is war, no glorification of war. Much history and they dig deep into it. Landkrieg is about the Thirty Years' War during 1618-1648. Germany was not a country until 1871. Thirty Years' War, was from the beginning a religious conflict, fought between Roman Catholics and Protestants in today's Germany. That part is called the Bohemian-Palatine period, (1618-1623). The Lower Saxon-Danish period (1623–1629) and the victory for the Habsburg-Catholic parts in northern Germany were big concerns for the Protestant neighbors and made the German crisis a truly European issue. The Swedish-German period, 1630–1635 , did mean that Sweden (Protestant) did enter the war. The track "Den mörka nattens lejon"is about Gustav the Second King Of Sweden, known as The Lion from the North. In Northern Germany, Swedish leaflets were distributed in which Gustav II Adolf, in biblical terms, was portrayed as the "Lion from the North" who would drive away the hated papists. (Not Carolus Rex also known as The Lion from the North). They did defeat the Catholic army. The Swedish-French period, 1635–1648, did have both major and minor wars. The Thirty Years' War ended with the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648, which irrevocably changed the map of Europe.
Scalpture is not a Sabaton wannabe; write about wars has always been a thing in metal. Scalpture's lyrics are so well done, and once again, not a glorification of war.
And so is the music, I can find a hint of Bolt Thrower, and Reckless Manslaughter, but they really do their own Death Metal. "The Fall" is the first track and instrumental. You can hear right away that something special is coming. There is not a bad track on this album; Thorsten has a really odd voice, in a good way, he gives me an Unleashed hint, and is one of the reasons why Scalpture stands out so much. But the sound they have is also one of a kind, old school death but very clear guitar solos. The bass guitar has a lot of space, the drums are really tight. "Landsknecht" is another track that gets your attention; it sometimes feels like this band could start a thrash metal project; they have that feeling. "Den Mörka Nattens Lejon" is a most listen." Schwedentrunk" as a Swede...I do know that this was a very brutal way to torture people."Bellum Se Ipsum Alet" because they really sound Thrash. The history lesson above is actually what the lyrics are about. "Into Catastrophe" is about a pre-war reference to the episodes in Prague in 1618 when the disgruntled Protestant estates threw two royal governors and their secretary out of a window of the Hradčany Castle (defenestration) and wrote an extensive apologia explaining their action. Well, enough with history, go and get the music.
