Night Stealer
Savaged
The Speed/Heavy Metal trend today is a part of the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (NWOTHM), the tendency of Old School Metal the rescue the sonorities that were usual between 1983 to 1986. Many acts as SULL FIST, BULLET, CAULDRON, CRYSTAL VIPER, ENFORCER, NIGHT DEMON and others are into NWOTHM ‘movement’ (the ‘’ is just to say that there aren’t premeditated ideas or ideas to take down Modern Metal ways), offering to the fans an Old School form of music that has the young energy of these days. And one more that comes to the same trend is the quartet SAVAGED (from Barcelona), here presenting their first full-length, “Night Stealer”. The band brought Javier Felez (guitarist of GRAVEYARD, OF DARKNESS, APOLOGOETHIA, BALMOG, POISON LEATHER and others) to work on the recordings, mixing and mastering of the album at his own Moontower Studios.
The idea was to have a sonority that could be simple and organic as in the 80s, but trying to do it on modern technologies. The sonority is good, but the band could use something more defined (what their music demands). As the previous words depicts, the quartet works on a Speed/Heavy Metal way usual for the 80s acts of those days. It’s nothing a sin to comment that their music bears influences of acts as JUDAS PRIEST, ACCEPT, ACID, SAXON, FAITHFUL BREATH, CROSSFIRE, but trying to show their own personality. It’s truly very good, relying on excellent melodies, solid instrumental and good vocals (that can become better in the future, so don’t expel Jamie, it’s not the idea of these words, please!). Yes, the fans of the genre will love this album!
There are 8 very good tracks on the album, all of them depicting a band with a huge potential. But’s impossible to not like moments as “I Will Fight” (excellent guitars, both on the melodic leads and themes, as on the mighty riffs), “Tons of Leather” (the speed decreases, and the band depicts a heavier outfit with catchy melodies that tempers the aggressiveness, and what solid work on bass guitar and drums), “Knights of Metal” (this one shows a clear NWOBHM influence on the melodies, with moments reminding IRON MAIDEN’s classic age), “Money Sucks” (very good and excellent melodies, with sharp guitars and good vocals), and “Running for Your Love (Tonight)”. These ones are just to begin with because all the songs are very good.
For now, “Night Stealer” shows that the fans are dealing with a promising name that needs to sharp their efforts in the future for now. But mark the name of SAVAGED, because the tendency is that they grow a lot.
