SAVAGE MASTER are an american trad Heavy Metal band from Louisville, Kentucky. They were formed relatively recently in 2013, released two LPs and two EPs, one of which via Skol Records and three with High Roller Records. The latest of the latter, „Creature of The Flames", a five-track EP is today's subject, so let's get started. The effort kicks in with a killer riffs, can't help it, everyone loves a fucking riff. Then vocalist Stacey Peak kinda... well, not ruins it, just makes it a bit less enjoyable. The chorus tries to be really anthemic and catchy, but ultimately... Just no. The vocals on this track are weak and forced, and I'd even go as far as to say it's cringe sometimes. It has some fun factor here and there but overall the guitars and the drums carry this song, both fairly decent. Ultimately, „Burning Leather" is a fun 7/10 song.

Second in line is „Child of The Witch" starts with a door slam, you'd think this one's gonna be creepy, but no, it basically follows the same formula... Through.The.Whole.Song. The singing is a bit easier to „embrace", I guess, more charisma and it gives off a more organic feeling. The instruments keep the same above average standard, with slightly more focus on drums. Overall a bit tiring, but still enjoyable song. Next song, self-titled one. Long, one minute long intro, dragged out, then a generic verse, (instrumentally and vocally) generic MAIDEN chorus, generic solo and generic outro. The problem with this song (and the album in general) is that it tries way too hard to be a mix of IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST, (especially the guitar and drum tones) and not it's own unique thing. Anyways, generic and boring song, let's just forget about it. It's almost 6 minute length does NOT help it either.

„Dark Enchantress" suffers from the same problems, but if you just turn your brain off and relax, it delivers a fair amount of enjoyment. Unfortunately, the moment you turn your brain on, you can't help but notice how stale this song is overall, BUT you still can't help but get into it. This is the song that sets a great example for what the album SHOULD sound like. It's still stale musically, but it has such a freakin' cool atmosphere to it, can't help but headbang to this song. The closer, „Death or Glory" is not climatic at all, not different, just another song from the record, sadly returns to the sub-par Maiden copycat style and quality. There's some solid guitar work and drumming, but not nearly enough to save this song from mediocrity.

Verdict: Nice and cute attempt at making an epic, short, adrenaline filled run but ultimately fails because it sticks to the same recipe that could not resemble NWOBHM more.
