Sargeras - Return of the Dancing Whores album cover

Many people that saw the film "Lords of Chaos" now understand the passion behind the early days of the coming of the SWOBM. But still today, many people are still in love with the old days, when things were being built without concerns about who would listen or not. The attitude can be questioned, of course, but the music is something that still charms many. And the German trio SARGERAS is one of them, as can be heard on "Return of the Dancing Whores", their first album.

The trio's music is a raw and putrid form of Black Metal inspired by the invasion that happened between 1993 and 1997. Their music is aggressive and crude to the bones, a true and definitive 'fuck you' in the face of many. But this album has a personality pulsing under such simple and morbid form of music, something that only those who witnessed the Second Wave of Black Metal days can really understand deeply. It's clear that they still have a way to go, but it's a very good release.

The band had M. Dahmen on the mixing and mastering, trying to create something that could fit on the 'ugly aesthetics' that Black Metal had in the past. But he and the band had in mind that even sounding raw and darkened, the listeners must understand what they're musically expressing, so everything is loud and aggressive, but in a way that even a dummy can understand without making efforts.

Their music can cut as deep as a rusty blade, but the morbid and nasty ambience created by the guitars heard on "Salem", the sharp chilling feeling that comes from "Sabbath" (very good shrieks, indeed, contrasting with agonizing voices), the darkened appeal of "Return of the Dancing Whores" (come influences from CELTIC FROST and BATHORY can be heard on the bass guitar and drums' works), and "Pestilence (Revolt of the Slaves of God)" (this one with charming rhythmic contrasts) are the ones that Black Metal fans must hear carefully. But the use of such long timespans can be a problem in the future.

SARGERAS is really a promising name in Black Metal, and when evolution works as it must, no one will stop their assault!
