First of all, don't get me wrong; I understand the fact that there are plenty of people who get off on being blasted in the face with a wall of noise. Many bands play on this knowledge, and release music that is built on that principle, with little to no creativity put into the production of their work. And speaking of production, that is where this album mostly falls flat.
There are guitars. There are drums. There are vocals. The hard part is being able to tell when one ends and the next begins, as the mixing of the album is painful to hear. The drums are relentless and repetitive, burying the guitars to the point where they're almost inaudible, and the vocals are nothing but a faint scream in the background.
Each and every track is almost identical, and at their short length (no more than three minutes apiece) the first four tracks of the release leave no space to understand what on earth is going on, and what that ringing sound is in your ears. It speaks volumes when my personal favorite track is the fifth and final "Ossuss - SSS", which is literally nothing more than five minutes of white noise and static.
At one point in "Nati da Vulcani", it sounds as if there may be a halfway-decent solo going on somewhere, although it's impossible to distinguish it underneath the attention-demanding drums. "Strega" is almost melodic at times, with the vocals mimicking the guitars...before the drums once again take hold, and the semblance of order is gone immediately.
Let me reiterate: there will inevitably be people who enjoy this album. I accept that. The thing I can't understand is why, as all that seems to be present is an onslaught of sound, lacking any order or even power. Still, I guess there can't be good music without the bad, and that's what keeps Metal interesting.
