SANGUINE GLACIALIS is a MeloDeath/Gothic Metal band hailing from Montreal, Canada. Formed in 2010, this is the band's third full-length album, and it has eleven songs. "Welcome" is the first. The opening notes are deep, dark and expressive, with piano and symphonic elements mixing with both clean and harsh vocals, and the latter have a real bite to them. The background is thick with atmosphere as well. "Immuration" begins with haunting vocal harmonies and rolling drums that sound like thunder. The operatic nature of the clean vocals is in stark contrast with the harsh vocals, which makes for an engaging listening experience.

"Ars Moriendi" begins with rich, meaty bass notes, and again, that contrast in vocals styles is energizing. On one end, you have saxophone and piano, while on the other end, you have deep, aggressive guitars. "Resilience" has playful opening tones, almost like something that you would hear in a carnival. But at night, the dead come out and play, frolicking and dancing around with the patrons of the park. Listen to the drums roll... Jérémy is a beast on the kit. "Reveries Obsessives" is a short instrumental that is dark and moody, and sets the tone for the final four songs. "Paracusia" is eight minutes long. It opens with a haunting piano passage. What follows is the beast arisen from his slumber and ready to eat. The symphonic elements are quite rich, and they provide a little reprieve from the harsh edges of the song.

"Inadaptatio" is a deep and slower groove, with clean vocal harmonies in the beginning that give way to aggressive harsh parts very soon thereafter. In this sense, they sort of remind of a bit of KALMAH. "Burst in Flames" begins with rich operatic vocals and some background bombast in support. It's a deathly grind from there, akin to watching a beast be formed out of mud and ash. As it starts to take shape, you can see the fire in his eyes. "Resignation" comes for your throat out of the gates with a cold, calculated, and deadly bite. This closing song goes about as deep as any on the album with machine gun drumming and precise guitar parts. Overall, I like the band's attention to details on the album, and the rich atmosphere with symphonic elements. Both vocalists are fantastic as well. This album was as opulent as it was enjoyable to listen to.
