SANGHEILIS is a Modern Metal band from France. They have a wide variety of influences, including everything from Metalcore to Hardcore, and Djent bands. I believe this is their debut album (EP?), and contains six tracks.

"Valhalla" opens the album. It's a quick one-minute mood setting instrumental, featuring some eerie electronica and big thuds, seguing into "Until the End." It opens with harsh vocals and a heavy riff along with more of that electronica. Stylistically, it is somewhere between Hardcore and Metacore in my opinion. The keys are really holding the sound together nicely however. Without them, the album would be a one-trick pony, because the riffs are fairly simple. "Beyond Errors" features some safe riffing and the harshness of the vocals is noteworthy, but they stay on open notes too long. This is often the case with a new band, so I understand. Again, the very minor key parts save this song.

"Mindless" opens with a varying riff of sorts. It's a slow, lumbering song that uses lead guitar notes to pronounce the sound. They are taking some risks here which I like. The bass guitar notes are nice as well. "Beastkiller" opens with equal doses of guitar and keys which swirl around together in this dark affair. A guitar solo opens up the sound a bit, and as the album progresses, it is impacting me more and more. I probably could have done without the obligatory breakdown but that is neither here nor there. The ambient passage that follows with clean guitar is a nice addition.

"Apocalypse" closes the album, opening with a little more energy. The sound builds and becomes mighty around the half-way mark. It gathers steam for one final push towards the end. Overall, this was a decent good effort by SANGHEILIS. I wish there were more keys, and that they stayed off the open chords a bit more. But, it's what you can expect from a new band trying to find their way in the genre. They clearly have talent, in both the vocals and the instruments. Now, it's just a matter of finding ways to separate themselves from the sea of bands out there in the genre.
