One With The Universe
Samsara Blues Experiment
I don't believe that any musician that didn't partake in what happened in the Rock scene back in the late 60s, coming 70s, can actually illustrate the state of mind of artists that emerged back then. The whole Psychedelic phenomenon that became even stronger in the 70s, took the genre into imaginary journeys, moving under the influence while not physically making a move. I trust that you get what I am getting at. Anyhow, artists in the past and present that never spent a second in those eras could only come close, yet I believe that I found one of the closest examples. The German Rock trio SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT are a part of the ongoing wave of bands that have been rejoicing around the spirit of vintage, yet I found out that they went beyond to be different. Recently the band introduced their fourth studio album, "One With The Universe", via Electric Magic Records, to the world communion. Certainly I could refer to it as a sort of a gift from outer space.
Clasping Psychedelia into their order of musical business, SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT have been tasting various of blends, issuing traditional Hard Rock, tamed by the Blues, entranced by Stoner attributes and upgraded by the atmospheric essence of Indian Folklore. Frankly, the Indian instrumentation was an ace in the hole. I found vast references to a variety of acts, some of the old days and some trying to make names for themselves: BLACK SABBATH / HAWKWIND / PINK FLOYD / DEEP PURPLE / HENDRIX / MARS RED SKY / KADAVAR / WO FAT among others that could also be regarded. "One With The Universe" is a voyage through space and time, crossing decades, engulfing the soul in a drugged haze, serving classic melodies of the finest craft, surveying an imaginary battle between Eastern and Western cultures, all in the name of Rock music. Furthermore, the trio proved their ability to blend in songs in mainly instrumental oriented tracks. Sometimes I felt that the song aspects weren't really needed as the band is able to capture attention with their music alone, yet, Christian Peters set himself to be a prominent singer in the manner of the music the band has been producing.
Ready yourselves for lengthy tunes, not too many mood swings. Think of it as an outer body experience, yet with plenty of distortions. This is a sort of a seat back and let yourself sink kind of listening. There are grooves here and there that would come in to ravage, but there will be a lot of comfort to indulge yourselves in, Keyboards and lead guitar would set in to blaze and well played drumming. I really liked the melodic haze created in "Eastern Sun & Western Moon" while the instrumental mastery within "One with the Universe" and "Sad Guru Returns" is thing of pure class. On the other hand, "Glorious Daze" shared one of the finest atmospheric Rock moments that wouldn't put to shame any of the vintage stars.
"One With The Universe" is an essential album of the revamp process of the evolving Rock decades. There is enough here to have you tracing back old albums while tuning in to the band's previous discography to keep the vein pumped with their music.
