A review of an album is always a try to decrypt a musical effort. And sometimes it seems that you cannot achieve a perfect description, and you're in the process of the words sought to understand the style of the album. Among the albums that I found a difficulty to decipher it, despite my appreciation for all that is Stoner / Sludge Metal, the duo's debut album American SADGIQACEA "False Prism". The album is about forty minutes long, four tracks which is an ordinary thing for such a style.
The first track "False Segments" kicks off for the beginning, a very melancholic beginning but with a very low tempo. The guitars are tuned several steps above the normal tuning, which gives the possibility to the guitarist and bassist Evan Schaefer to play in a very low notes. The intention of making this album a journey into the unknown was the main purpose; do not attack the different musical passages without having an idea of what you expect. The following takes me to "False Cross" that seems more progressive and still very dark and experimental from a point of view of Stoner / Sludge of course. Also vocalist Evan Schaefer alternates between several singings. Indeed between cries and harsh voices, he does very well to express rage; his way of singing especially reminded me of the singer & guitarist of the band GOJIRA, Josephe Duplantier.
I'm not out of my surprises, with a song that reminds me of Black Metal with very fast blast beats, I discover the third piece "False Prism". But quickly, we have marked a return to the origin. This song showed me the flexibility of two musicians to make changes, seeking to surprise the fans. The most extensive song of this entire album with a length of almost 15 minutes is the track "True Darkness", also the last song seems even more aggressive. And it is thanks to drummer Fred Grabosky, who showed indeterminable flexibility, follows a highly personalized drum playing. "True Darkness" really reflected its name; it's imposing a bad supper and completely dark environment. And then what took my attention is mostly a quiet passage through the song, it's a bit oriental and strong and plunges me in nostalgic phase remind me the worst moments of my life. Before resuming the same riff, but with more distortion to finish with a majestic way.
Thanks to the determination of the American duo, they were able to compose a very good album, which surely deserves more analysis and encryption. And as I stated at the beginning, it may try to find the right words for a review that can be a personal expectation.
