RYMDSTYRELSEN is a Swedish Psychedelic Rock band, they belong to the massive trippy spectrum of groups like CACTUS or HUMBLE PIE, with a sharp twitch.

The intro "Interkosmos" reminds me a little bit of that great project APHRODITE'S CHILD (Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos, Loukas Sideras, and Silver Koulouris) from Greece, giving away to that mastodon first track "Space is Cold" which has the perfect combo for an LSD walking tour through the desert. Great vocals, infectious hooky melodies, fuzzy pentatonic riffage, and solid bass lines.

The song "Asteroids" display more of a PINK FLOYD´s "Ummagumma" aura, which is always a chill-out experience. The ride cymbals pattern and the tom-fills every four bars reveal some Nick Mason influence, enhancing the sense of orchestration rather than a mere percussionist groove.

"Solar Phases" has a fuzzy pounding riff (in comparison with the rest of the tracks) in ¾ time signature, which gives space for the whole band to embellish their sound, keeping the listener entertained. Worth mention is the middle-to-end section with keys and a melancholic guitar motif guiding through an emotional crescendo to a Stanley Kubrick 2001´s world finale.

"Stellar Directions" is an instrumental jam with a looping guitar theme and stereophonic keyboards arrangements, plus a stunning section of ambiance sounds. There is some "Bridge of Sighs" (ROBIN TROWER) influence, some Basil Poledouris musical bravado, all dynamically combined to convey an unworldly message, it works.

"Drifting" stays in similar tempos as some of its predecessors, which tends to be lethargic at this point, maybe a change of pace could have been better. Nevertheless, I enjoy the way the synths played the riffs at unison with the guitars and bass; it contributes to the "wall of sound" experience.

"Salyut 6" is a drony outro in a different key. Gotta say that I was hoping for a whole pompous final song, giving the key change, but it just ends, leaving me with an expectational crave for an ultimate "Into the Void" closing sort.

I´m not unhappy with the short length; I´m disappointed because of the lack of the iconic last cut. My brain was demanding a gut-punchier finale. The record keeps anticipating you all the time for a final outbreak that never sprees. They have the potential, and the larger-than-life sound, which could be marketable within Metal, Indie and Classic Rock audiences, but if they just have delivered THAT brutal tune, it would be all 10´S.
