Antithesis of Prosperity

First, let me just make the comment that this style is not for me. The music is on the extreme end of the Metal rainbow. However, I can recognize talent when I hear it, and these guys have it. They are ferocious, energetic, and able to cut and pivot on something that has the width of a hair.

From Bandcamp, “Heavily influenced by the world of human behaviour we inhabit daily, thematically the band deals with pathology, addiction, malice and the seemingly endless hubris we are surrounded by. At the same time the band members see music and the extremity of the style as a cathartic release from the daily grind and they perform the songs not without a sense of humour and staunch self esteem, that even in the face of gross human behaviour we can still rise above and find solace in music and the connections it brings.”

The album has nine songs, and they are very short. “Shachiku” is first. It’s a blast of energy that seemingly has no boundaries. There are gutturals, grunts, and screams that lead the vocals, a couple of time changes, and a plethora of different riffs. “Glass Face” features a slow, heavy riff, and spoken words, and segues into some lead breaks. The sound here is punishing, and brutal, and it is as dark as the end of the world. “Pathological Altruism” is under a minute, and the band packs in as many notes and as much energy as they possible could. “Recidivist Reprobate” is slower, heavier, and more powerful, and it’s akin to being beat over the head repeatedly.

“Kleptomaniac” is like someone on a stealing spree that is high on speed. Before you know it, they have cleaned out your store and are on to the next one. “Lost Lessons in Filth” is a short blast of controlled chaos where the top half moves so quickly, the bottom half nearly comes apart at the axels. “Forever” also has spoken words, but they are distorted, and hard to make out. The barrage that follows is heavier than as direct asteroid strike on the earth. “Trapped in Vain Decline” comes out of the gate with guns blazing and bares fangs ready to bite, and that bite can travel through flesh, sinew, and bone. “The Fear” closes the album, and it’s another heavy slab of concrete where drums echo with what seems like a million strikes per second.
