Ruin - Spread Plague Hell album cover

A band known as RUIN (I tried my best not to be confused with the countless other bands known as RUIN) formed in the 90s with no real material except a Demo entitled: "Sickening Run" and from the looks of it; the band had a "sickening run" -ahem- of a 15 year hiatus... Returning in the year 2015 with Mihail Jason Satan as the only original member; comes a new Demo entitled: "Spread Plague Hell". This is a fine return for that insanely long hiatus; so Mihail Jason Satan should be proud that he's resurrected this band from near death condition. With an all new lineup including N.H.M.M. on the pounding bass, David on the crushing drums and Destroy on guitar. If you're new to this band; you'd expect nothing but brutal Death Metal destroying your eardrums, right? Yes. You would be correct. "Spread Plague Hell" is nothing but brutality from beginning to end. It's nothing special by all means; but it is a nice Demo to own at least. With perverted lunacy comes a massacre of flesh and bones; soon the darkness; into the final bloodbath. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Each song in order had a nice poem for me to include. But seriously now...

Beginning to play the actual CD; had me reeling at the religiously infected introduction of perversion; at least that's what my imagination foretold. "Perverted Lunacy" has blasting beats of aggressive steel. It's crazy to think that after all these years Mihail Jason Satan can still pull off these infectious growls and riffs. It really is what Death Metal fans thrive for. "And Soon The Darkness" showcases some fabulously fine riffs upon starting this track; while it begins slow, it still puts that "brutal face of approval" motion onto me. And then a thrashier version of that riff comes in and it continues to build up more hype. The religious tone I was talking about continues; including some very fine "sickly" growls - this is more evident in "The Final Bloodbath"; which; to my surprise; is a DISCHARGE cover - crushingly brutal as well.

To be honest, RUIN are very underground as you would have expected from reading this review's first paragraph. So, finding actual information out on them had become a bit of a chore. This "Demo" which felt more like an EP to me; it was very short as well but it was a nice taste of steel to get the listener pumped and hyped for hopefully a full album over the horizon? "Spread Plague Hell" is nothing more than the band saying "WE ARE BACK, and we mean business"; they really do as well...
