Rotted Through - /The_Depths album cover

Now, I will be the first to admit I don't know the nuances of the different American states... However, when I think of Connecticut, I always seem to have this really picturesque image and it's a really lovely place full of well refined and very posh people. However, then comes along ROTTED THROUGH a Death Metal trio that are here to barrage the listeners with their debut release "/The_Depths" which is a dark web inspired horror story. So, let's see where this goes. The artwork is something fairly horrific, I'm not entirely sure what is going on there but it is... interesting.

Opening the record is "Infinite_Depths" which takes an awful lot of disconcerting sounds and just throws them at you. There is a bit of a false start, musically speaking, it comes in hard and fast, but also feels just a bit out of place, I guess it is an ominous warning of what's to come. "What Does / B / Keep In The Freezer?" doesn't pull any punches and just comes flying in with some really aggressive and downright fucking brutal tracking. The guitars and drum tracking are really really tight. The vocal layering and techniques are exquisite, and the steady tempo just beats away at you, chipping into you over and over again. I don't know what I was expecting, but I'm not sure it was this and I am impressed.

"Human Experiments" comes flying in with some divine dual melodies that catch your attention before the energetic and aggressive feel of the record has carried through everything that has come, but this really nails it! An amazing structure and flow, an absolutely disgustingly dirty breakdown that really hit me right in my core, it was simply superb. "To Stretch... To Tear" is another absolutely solid track, there is so much going on that I am just immersing myself in this barrage of some of the finest Death Metal that I have heard for some time. I just want to hone in on the final track to see whether the record goes out with a bang, or wimply whispering 'celery'. Well I needed fear, "That Which Is Abysmal" is a powerhouse of a Death Metal track. Low guttural growls, a riffage that is so mean I'm worried it'll break into my house and tombstone the cat! This track makes sure that when you have finished listening to the record, you are instantly looking for more ROTTED THROUGH to listen to.

Overall, I simply adored this album. It's a lesson to myself hat I shouldn't judge a book by its cover (or in this case an album by its opening track). It brings together what is great about Old School Death Metal and the newer Death Metal stylings to create this hybradised super sub-genre. I was honestly impressed, and I cannot see how this will not be well received by any Metal fan who hears it.
