Rotborn - On the Perspective of an Imminent Downfall album cover

Brazilian Death Metal acts have a different and unusual feature: as one is drown into a multicultural cauldron of different musical genres, it enters the music in some ways, because it's impossible to grow there without hearing music. And it allows bands to create something that is slightly different from the usual, and one can check in the first album of the quartet ROTBORN, of Bauru (SP), "On the Perspective of an Imminent Downfall" (a title that seems to be linked in some ways to Brazilian political moment).

The band explores different influences into classic Death Metal acts as MORBID ANGEL (especially during "Covenant"/"Domination" era), CANNIBAL CORPSE and others, with a very good technical care in the arrangements, but with a full force aggressiveness that is clear to the ears. Some Thrash Metal and Hardcore hooks can be heard as well, and even with a classic (and brutal) outfit, one can check that their musical core isn't a pure Death Metal breed, because the quartet isn't emptying their musical efforts to copy anyone, but doing things on their own. Being influenced is a thing, being a copy is another (and different) thing, you all know.

Reinaldo Moreira (sound engineering on drums and vocals, mixing and mastering), Nestor Carrera and Renato Bianchini (sound engineering on guitars and bass) are the one who conceived the sonority of this album, and they did something modern, defined and clean, but keeping things into a Death Metal model, of course. So you must be prepared to have your ears ripped and smashed!

Even bearing a classical approach on Death Metal, the quartet's songs are massive onslaughts of aggressiveness tempered with good taste on the arrangements. And to have the clear idea of what they can do, take a bit on "Condemned" (very good rhythmic changes, based on a strong work of bass guitar and drums), "F.U.B.A.R." (some subjective Thrash/Groove influences can be detected on the guitars, especially during the solo), "Unnatural Invading Parasites" (a massive aggressiveness is presented on this one, with the guttural grunts following a 'Mullenian' way, and the hooks inherited from Hardcore can be heard in many moments), "Stench of a New Era to Come" (another moment of extreme brutality, with a fine set of aggressive ambiences created by the guitar riffs), and "The Void Eater" are the right ones.

And to think that ROTBORN is just beginning its career with "On the Perspective of an Imminent Downfall" is an astonishing fact. Enter into this void of massacre, and beware of your necks!
