Rod Sacred - Submission album cover

ROD SACRED is a band that has been around, off and on, since the 80's. I'm assuming since they are still kicking, they have a loyal following but unfortunately I am not feeling this release.  There are some bright spots but they don't outshine the bad ones.

The biggest mark against the band is Tonio's vocals; they are just too nasal for my tastes.  He sounds like a Power Metal singer that is pinching his nose with his fingers.  His vocals are really monotone too; they never really change or show any major range.  His voice really makes it hard to make it through a lot of the songs, which is a problem because there are just so many tracks.  Sixteen tracks are just too many and makes for a very long, boring ride. However, even if everything was firing on all cylinders, the production would ruin it.  I'm not sure why, but some of the tracks sound better than others.  The opening track, "Circle of Lust", is loud and clear.  Other songs, however, like "Hiper Drive" and "Radio" sound considerably different; quieter in terms of volume and everything sounds a little buried in the mix.

There are some highlights, specifically Franco's bass and Andrea's drums. Franco's bass is awesome; the tone is clear and focused and he definitely stands out on every track but especially on the slower "Strange Life," where the guitars aren't doing much and Franco gets to carry the song.  Andrea's drums, while not mind blowing, are very energetic and fun, complimenting the songs well.

The same can't be said for the guitars.  While definitely talented, the riffs are just bland; they sound like left over tracks from every corny 80's band ever.  After about four tracks, the guitars all sound the same. Despite the bright spots in the form of the bass and drums, I can't see myself ever listening to this again or recommending it to anyone.
