Richie Kotzen is one of the most famous guitar players in the hard rock genre with a great songwriting talent and a great voice. Having released over a dozen of solo albums, with participations as a guitarist in famous bands like POISON in 1991 (with "Native Tongue) and with MR.BIG  (in "Get Over It, "Deep Cuts and "Actual Size) and many other projects/bands, he has just completed Marco Mendoza's "Live For Tomorrow production and focused on his personal album, "Return Of The Mother Head's Family Reunion.

The album's opener, "Go Faster, shows immediately Richie's intentions; hard guitar-based rock with the necessary touch of blues. Kotzen's voice is fantastic and brigs all of his feelings to the surface, reminding me the voice of Glenn Hughes sometimes.
The eight-minute "Fooled Again is one of the songs that you can understand that this is a guitarist's album. Nice melodic line with thunderous guitar solo at the end. "Faith is slowest, bluesy and touching, with incredible backing vocals and a keyboard carpet to hold all together. "Bad Things is a heavy-riff song in the IRON BUTTERFLY sound. Jimi Hedrix fans will love "Dust, a song with dirty overdriven Stratocatser sound in the beginning while - as the song reaches the chorus - it sounds like DEEP PURPLE. It is obvious that Richie Kotzen can transport the listener smoothly from our hard rock present to the rock past we all love.
"Do It Yourself most likely will be the hit of this album, with nice lyrics and a catchy chorus melody. "Can You Feel It shows why Richie Kotzen is one of the best guitar players in the world; blues to the edge with the unstoppable guitar solo in the back. "Drift is a bonus song only in the European and Japanese release of "Return Of The Mother Head's Reunion.

At this point we have to note the unbelievable talent of August Kotzen, Richie's 10-year-old daughter, who handled some of the background vocal harmonies in a unique way. There is definitely a singing future for this girl.

Once again, Richie Kotzen proves to be a virtuoso guitar player with magnificent songwriting and vocal skills. No doubt that Kotzen is a hard rock icon in times where it is rather difficult to find one.
