Ribozyme - Presenting The Problem album cover

When I made my choice to focus on this Norwegian Hard Rock band, I had the feeling that I won't be evident to the common type of Rock, meaning something similar to the modern American style. The hard working RIBOZYME belongs to the musical world of sophistication, intelligence, creativity and a sense to sound and be different from others. It is like marketing yourself as a new type of brand. Even if most bands attempt on doing the same, not like RIBOZYME found the secret to be genuine, the end results usually aren't that good or miserably fall to the ground screaming in agony. Following a decade of career, along four albums, RIBOZYME released their fifth, "Presenting The Problem", via Indie Recordings, and to me it seemed like the opposite of agony.

Although I must say that I found songs like "Leverage" and "Presenting The Problem" weren't such solid outputs. "Leverage" was even too weird and it didn't make any sense as it was hard to comprehend. I think that the trio was a little excessive and drastic with that one. On the other hand there were tracks like "Over The Glavanized", "Lending A Fever" and "Caskets" that really opened up my eyes. In music I think that diversity is a virtue. Of course that a band can follow its roots, pay respects to their influences etc. However, making an impact, especially like the creativeness displayed on "Over The Glavanized", takes a little bit of guts along with the wish to challenge, at in a certain level, the listening end.

RIBOZYMEwere able to create interesting modern Rock that practically represented itself and no other sect in Rock music. Though you can always find similarities, yet those are only a fraction of the real thing. "Presenting The Problem" seemed to me like an honest composition by band that has been marching forward from day one. Although I had a few misconceptions about some of their ideas, the overall is amazing, unexpected, intriguing and highly recommend.
