Strangely REVOLUTION ROAD isn't published by Frontiers Records but by their German alter ego the label Avenue Of Allies, but it still contains a lot of branded elements directly copyrighted by the Italian label routine and regular savoir faire. Indeed "Revolution Road" is a studio project with many external writers that can be seen essentially as a solo record for the Swedish vocalist Stefan Berggren (SNAKES IN PARADISE / ex-COMPANY OF SNAKES) with an impressive list of guest musicians. Beside of the obvious talent of this legendary singer, the whole project is based on some never released SNAKES IN PARADISE's lost numbers and a few new songs composed with the help of the Italian Keyboard player/composer/producer Alessandro Del Vecchio with and a superb duet of six strings players Carmine Martone (CHARMING GRACE) and Francesco Marras .
To even increase the interest, they also added many guests such as SILENT FORCE / VOODOO CIRCLE / PRIMAL FEAR / SINNER's Alex Beyrodt on lead guitar ("Ain't Gonna Give My Heart Away") and also the great Marcus Jidell (ex-ROYAL HUNT / EVERGREY / AVATARIUM) on "Love's Got A Hold On Me". Another interesting collaboration on the guitar section was brought by Stefan with the inclusion of his former SNAKES IN PARADISE colleagues, Stefan Jonsson and Thomas Jakobsson for the tracks "Shooting Star" and "Pretending Hearts". This team is pretty efficient and faultless, as well as the competent backing band composed by Paul Logue (EDEN'S CURSE / LAVALLE) on bass also responsible for the writing credit for the best song: "Take Your Love To Town" and completed by the solid drumming of Francesco Jovino (EDGE OF FOREVER / SAPPHIRE EYES / HARDLINE / SKILL IN VEINS)
With this casting of renowned players, you already know that isn't revolutionary by any means or not in the Mathcore Death Metal style that's for sure, but this project can be summarized by saying that it's another tribute to the albino reptile but in a more subtle way than the good but too caricature "More Than One Way Home" by VOODOO CIRCLE, the cool closing track "Balloon" remind me of the British class of THUNDER era "Laughing On Judgment Day".
Some clichés are still present, here and there, such as the song titles and some Coverdale's vocal mannerism ("Ain't Gonna Give My Heart Away") but the musical scope is a little wider than it seems, ranging from AOR ("Wings Of Hope" / "Pretending Hearts") to the more edgy riffage of "Losing You" or "Take Your Love To Town", in fact the whole spectrum of the Melodic polished Hard Rock genre is spent and exploited over and over.
The sound crafted by the omnipresent, Alessandro Del Vecchio is perfect warm and deep with a natural balanced dynamic, enhanced by his heavenly Hammond organ (specially uplifting in "Hold On"), another fine smartly crafted prod by Alessandro (AXE / HARDLINE / EDGE OF FOREVER / CHARMING GRACE / LIONVILLE / CODE OF SILENCE / LANESLIDE) that was involved in many interesting projects in 2013.
The lead vocals provided by Stefan Berggren are superb and the Classic Rock fans will be highly pleased by such melodic effort flawless in its execution a silver platter created under an orthodox 70's / 80's mood with a real guitar driven method in the old fashion way.
