I think The talented Swedish shining star Tommy Johansson is a very gifted Singer/Guitar player and an accomplished songwriter/producer/engineer I think he's one of the most promising musicians in the Scandinavian scene, obviously a multi skilled musician ...He's also involved in numerous side-projects as GOLDEN RESSURECTION/CHARLIE SHRED or PELLEK...But he's mostly the mastermind for his main band REINXEED. In the same time, especially concerning this release, I also think that he has done too many things lately, with the danger to overexpose himself, and even the greatest talent doesn't last well once diluted!
After covering some 80's Pop (ABBA / ACE OF BASE / ROXETTE) stuff for the first "Swedish Hitz Goes Metal" project and recording a load of numerous famous songs/sillyness for YouTube, yet finally publishing a weird concept: a Symphonic Metal album influenced by Hollywood's blockbusters original Soundtrack...Strange but at the end of the day it contains some first class tracks and a few interesting moments, "Welcome to the Theater" belongs in the higher category: The first -World-Pro-Metal-League- that Tommy and his friends should never leave far off!!!
Last year the "Swedish Hitz Goes Metal part II" was released in Japan exclusively and much to my disapointment this sequel had reached the cheesy overload Now the album is published in Europe by Christian Liljegren Rivel's (GOLDEN RESURRECTION / exNARNIA / DIVINEFIRE / WISDOM) very own DooLittle Group record company with a different running order: Let's get ready for an embarassing moment!
If I should admit that I have a soft spot for ABBA's amazing melodies, the other tracks by horrid 90's Pop/Euro-Dance icon like MEJA / DA BUZZ / LOREEN are more than indigestible. The constant/almost non-stop use of the auto tune FX on the lead-vocals tracks which is also proscriptive. It ruins all the organic feelings and the credibility, too many electronic-perfection-correction-tricks kills the magic of the music...The Cheesy as hell, closing track "My Favourite Game " originally by THE CARDIGANS is ok, maybe, but the final result is far from satisfaying!
Tommy is a musical genius, but he should be held responsible for all the blame concerning this artistic disaster. Knowing how high his exigencies generally are , it leaves me perplexed to the extreme!
