We have some heavy tunes coming from Italy today, kids. The name of the band is REESE and they are releasing their 3rd full album Long Streets. Being around since 2010, the band describes their sound as Alternative/Melodic Rock and despite their beautiful language, they do sing in English. The album starts with “Wait For The Day” and I like what I am listening to. Good energetic Hard Rock with a lot of melody and a punk vibe. The next track “Long Streets” that names the album’, gets a bit more exploratory with a creative drum tempo by drummer Enrico Gregory, and some nice melody. I can feel a vibe of pop punk ala GREEN DAY and SUM 41 and that feel of youth in the sound.
The tempos keep getting weirder as you can hear in “Plan B” that has also a cool guitar riff creating a sensation of rage and frustration. The band also presents other flavours to the table with the beautiful semi acoustic “Post It”with a tasteful arrangement and a sweet keyboard in the background by Ettore Duliman. Great riff and melody as well. This is a “ballad” with good vibes and none of that love suffering. “Dresscode” is next and the band also explores some Pop Rock from the 80’s and 90’s mixed in the recipe. The melodies are very well thought out and every song has a good memorable chorus. This one in particular has an end section riff that is pretty cool. The songs are varied and with particular drum tempos and I am now understanding the Alternative/Melodic label. It is basically very well composed songs with some sprinkles of a lot of styles and influences, and these are usually the recipe for good tunes like “Sleepless Nights”. We can hear the clear bass oriented riff led by Matteo Castegnaro in the track “Forfeit”, another highlight of the album for me with a cool chorus.
The band navigates well the thin line of being too commercial ,due to the great musicianship in every track as you can also hear in “The Expert”. They produce tracks that will be palatable for the regular listener and for the “connoisseurs” that will notice the craftsmanship in the performance. The band gets a little heavier again with “That Thing” with another great guitar riff by the duo Carlo Sturati and Mauro Poli. I believe Mauro is responsible for the tasty guitar solos as Carlo is also the singer. And for that, I have to say he is very good. Great clean voice and with a great range. We reach the end of our journey with yet another different approach in the churchful “Homeless Ghost”. It starts with a nice keyboard arrangement and the melody makes you want to sing along. Impressive work from REESE and an album that is pleasant to listen from beginning to end, and this is rare nowadays. Creative tempos, arrangements and memorable melodies. Is already downloaded on my Zune.
