Rebellix - Serpent's Kiss album cover

REBELLIX is a Finnish heavy metal band that was founded in 2016 by vocalist and composer Sammy Dee, and have gone on to release two EP's to date. The first Final Decay was released in 2018 with the singles "This is War" and "Fake Brand" used to promote the EP and received good reviews around the bars and clubs of Helsinki. In October 2021 the band released their second EP, Serpent's Kiss, and hope to keep riding the high of good reviews into the new year.

Opening the EP is the title track "Serpent's Kiss" and immediately you can understand why they seem to have a good rapport with clubs and bars and makes you wanna crack open a beer and take it in. The song kicks in with good rhythm and musically seems like a well written song, and is well complimented with some screeching guitars. If you would have guessed a band with a name like this might have a bit of a rebellious side to them, then you would right and it stands strong with the next track called "Fuck You". This song has a little more edginess in the music and hits a little harder then the rest of the EP, but personally this song doesn't do much for me, but the sixteen year old on the inside banged his head for a minute or two.

With the second half of the EP starting off with a track called "Play The Game", I find the music takes a bit of a change for the good, as the next two tracks are well done. With some well placed gallops starting out, this song doesn't let up, and has a balanced fast paced tempo from start to finish. "Hail To The Sky" finishes off the EP and keeps going right where the last track finishes. Great tandem guitars lead the way through this track and are pushed on with some excellent drums which makes this song stand alone on the EP to me. Creative and smooth piano work to finish off the track is also a nice touch.

SERPENT'S KISS did not disappoint me, but I would have to say is a bit of a one hitter quitter for me, with the exception of "Hail To The Sky". I can understand the appeal to maybe a younger bar going generation in some songs, with the 'fuck you imma do what I want' feel in them, but I would prefer to stick with the last of the EP, which brought forth more of a true metal sound.
