REAWACAN is a German band that mixes Groove and Melodic Metal with Death Metal vocals, creating a different type of music. They have recently released their newest self-titled album and that is what we are going to discuss today.
The opening track is "Anonymous Madness" which have a nice groove guitar riff going on and then some troll vocals comes as the other instruments find their place on it. I'm not sure if the vocals fit that type of music, they sound a little bit weird to me. But I must say that I respect that experiment. "C'mon Let's Suffer" starts with a riff that was probably inspired by the famous Symphony of Destruction by MEGADETH and it is a heavier song, where you can hear much more from the aggressive bass lines and the drums as well. I must say that I find that song a little messy, like if it isn't all tied together at some points.
"Illusory Reality" starts with a cool guitar riff that is badly played, but the essence is still there. They have more melodic elements and the guitar work here reminded of a few Melodic Death Metal bands, which I enjoyed. "Hope Inside In Sight" is what I would call a Thrash/Death Metal song and that fits the vocals better. "Der Traum" have a cool melody that is supported by a nice guitar riff. This song is heavier and shows a different side from the band, it have different elements and even a few keyboards here and there. "Reawacan" is the self-titled track from the album and it starts with a cool bass lines and drums only, until a cool guitar riffs comes in. This song has the groove, keyboards and aggressive vocals, but I must say that the keys sounds weird.
"The Weaker The Stronger" starts with a distorted guitar riff that is soon turned into a clean guitar tone. The drum work here is better and more creative if compared to the previous songs. This song is experimental in many ways, it has different dynamics and ambiances and doesn't sound boring. "Angry Grief 2019" starts with a punch in your face and there are even a few riffs that reminded me of Black Metal. "Warrior Vs. Worrier" starts with a clean guitar tone and a progressive drum, but then it turns into their already traditional high gain distorted guitar riffs. Here we can hear some clean vocals and I must say that they are good and should be used more often.
"You're Off" is the song that closes the album and it is pretty much everything that you have seem on the previous songs: distorted guitar riffs, growling vocals and a few grooves mixed up with some melodic guitars. But that song has one of the best melodies from the whole record.
REAWACAN seems to be still looking for their own identity as many times in the album their songs sound miscellaneous and not tied together. But the dudes are creative, and I am sure that as soon as they start to find their inner voice, they will improve their music progressively.
