REASON is Melodic Metal / Rock with echoes of Progressive Metal from Cheltenham, England. Formed in 2009 by Chris Gyngell (ex-VANDAMNE / FYREBYRDS / EMPIRE / CRYWOLF) along with guitarist & songwriter and vocalist Paul Mace. The band signed a deal with Sweden`s Alienation Records, for the release of their debut album "The Darkest Star". The album was recorded and produced by Gyngell and Mace, and with the welcome addition of the song "Rise" being remixed by Rock production legend Beau Hill.
"Before the Dawn", an epic of over 8 minutes, turned out to be my first choice out of this album, a little stomping ground but still slowly moving, following DIO and BLACK SABBATH. This is a fabulous mix with great melodic singing, quite hooking, an impressive mood changer. "Another World" is another classy stuff, churning nice melodic riffs and miscellaneous rhythms accompanied by beautiful singing having me picture James LaBrie. "Rise" has perfect keyboards setting, great an amazing AOR driven song. "Evil Angel" tended towards British old Rock, a bit of class but much resembling DAYLIGHT ROBBERY. "The Darkest Star" created an impeccable haziness, a bit psychedelic; 70's oriented PINK FLOYD with a modernized vibe of AYREON, in particular with the keyboards. "The Crusade" is an amazing instrumental track, well played and you will notice how tight the band's rhythm section is. Also worth to listen is the melodic Hard Rock mixing of "Life To A Flame" and the mega memorable tune "Forever" has that shake in the proximity of RUSH.
The English REASON portrays the beauty of Classic Rock / Hard Rock all fueled up with progression and with enough hooking crunchiness to have your ears for lunch. This album is totally interesting; it is a listenable experience of almost no other. I will sure be following them in their next ventures.
