Putrid Christ - Burning Temples Of The Holy album cover

Given the band name, album artwork, album title and song names it doesn't really take a genius to decipher the genre of metal they are. Black Metal trio PUTRID CHRIST have risen from the darkest depths of Minnesota to unleash a hell that is better known as "Burning Temples Of The Holy". This record provides us with the genre's true origins and unbridles a Black Metal curse upon us.

PUTRID CHRIST came into the blackened universe in the year 2012 when the apparent end of the world was due upon us, so ideal times for a Black Metal force to emerge. They brought forth their demo "Queen Of The Wolves" a year later, which was then followed by their split "Blasphemies Of The Elder Gods" in 2014. This review will scrutinise the workings behind their debut album "Burning Temples Of The Holy".

The trio don't waste any time opening the album so darkly with the song "Walls That Surround You", my first impressions? I definitely heard a tint of Black Metal titans EMPEROR and a tiny bit of VEHEMENT, a Black Metal band from Eastbourne that I happened to mention in my Bands To Watch write up. It's evident throughout the rest of the album that PUTRID CHRIST are out to do one thing and one thing only; cause destruction and chaos with their music creating a painful atmosphere of misery and despair. Like I have said many times in Black Metal that is a huge compliment.

In terms of how I personally found the record, there were some songs I found were brilliant to listen to such as "Grab The Nail" and "Queen Of The Wolves". On the whole I found it to be rather difficult to listen to; however they do set out a high standard of Black Metal that can be recognised and appreciated by die-hard fans of the sub-genre.

Having said this I do think PUTRID CHIRST do have the potential to make it further up the Black Metal ladder.
