PSYCHOTIC WALTZ are a 5 piece Progressive Metal band from California. They released 3 albums between 1990 m& 1994 with one album being released in 1992. They then disbanded and played with another line up for 1 album in 1996. The band have now reformed with the original line up from the first 3 albums. The new release Is called "The God Shaped Void" and contains 10 songs of Progressive Metal at it's finest. When the band originally came together in 1986 and were known back then as ASLAN. After the band parted ways in 1997 they each took on their own paths in life. Now 23 years later, they have found each other again. They have reunited and created this fine piece of musicianship. In 1997 PSYCHOTIC WALTZ joined NEVERMORE & SYMPHONY X on a European tour. The band have worked for a long time on the new album "The God Shaped Void", in fact they have spent 7 years creating the new album! The God-Shaped Void was recorded at Rarefied Studios in San Diego by Ulrich Wild and assistance engineering was provided by Josh Mallit. So bellow I will give a brief over view of the album and point out a few songs to listen out for.
The album opens with a song called "Devils And Angels" which is a song that starts with a gentle almost soothing sound and gently carries you into the album. It's haunting song from a haunting album. The first couple of minutes are strictly musical before the vocals come in to play. It's a sweet piece of music. Song number 3 is called "Back To Black" and opens a bit harsher. It's a heavier track than the opener, and it show the true nature & beauty of Progressive Metal. It's 3 minutes 52 seconds you should give to entertain & please the senses. "The Fallen" is song number 5 on the new album, and again is a more gentle opening and an easy song to listen to. It's slow easy pace makes it quite a relaxing song to listen to. "Pull The String" which is song number 7 on the new release is again a slightly heavier song. It's got some sweet guitar riffs in it and shouldn't be missed when you give the new album a spin. One more teaser from the album is song number 10 "In The Silence" which the song that closes the album. It's a song that opens with a mellow combination of music and vocals which soon comes to live with bite! The guitarists are great in this song and the music in general is not to be sniffed at. I would say there is not 1 bad song on the album.
PSYCHOTIC WALTZ are a band who have been around for a long time now, and if they continue to keep up this standard of work on future albums, you can be rest assured that they are a band that will be around for quite some time to come yet. They are one of the finer Progressive Metal bands out there and have written, performed and produced a really well made album with "The God Shaped Void." If your a Progressive Metal fan, then you are in for a treat when you hear PSYCHOTIC WALTZ's latest release. For fans of the band, this release has been long awaited and will be well received and I reckon the band are going to increase their fan base further still as the new album gains exposure. A band that has in the past been good places and show every sign of going even better places in the future.
