Formed in 2015, Sweden's PRIME CREATION rose from the ashes of a band called MORIFADE. Singer Englund was the final piece of the puzzle, as the band then signed with Mighty Music and released debut "Prime Creation." The album contains eight tracks. "Years of Crossness" presents a traditional Heavy Metal sound tinged with elements of Power Metal. The guitars are tuned quite low, and they linger on that low E chord. The power of the song is in the chorus for the most part. "War is Coming" still registers on that low chord, with the variance coming from the rhythm rather than ever-changing notes. Keyboards here add a layer of texture and the more emotional vocals have a measurable impact. Englund's voice remind me at times of BRAINSTORM's Andy Franck or LANFEAR's Nuno De Barros Fernandes. "Born in Fear" has a nice full sound, with a heavy, hard-driving rhythm, and a memorable chorus. Arnell's drumming is exceptional on this song. He has a great sense of timing and some pyrotechnics that are impressive as well.

The opening riff in "27" is boss. The lead guitar parts have an outer-world sound and with some harsh vocals this could be on the Melodic Death Metal side of the fence. As the album continues on it seems to be gathering speed and intensity. "In the Red" is a mid-tempo rocker with a traditional Classic sort of sound; a meaty low riff in the verses, with a pause before the chorus and then the song is full on. The lead guitar parts are great but I find myself wanting them to have a little more presence. A full and thick chorus in "Scream" is one of the highlights on the album. There is still a lot of focus paid to establishing the rhythm in the verses, but it's that drawn out chorus that delivers the melody and impact in this track. A nice guitar solo (played on a Fender Strat in the neck position?) rounds things out.

"Crown of Creation" closes the album, with a brief keyboard melody that melts into guitar. The dark and mysterious sound is really on point here. It's a nice final song on a debut album that does a good job steep in the history of Classic Metal with its own modern twist. There is a good foundation for the genre on this album, but a little more diversity would really bring it to life. Still, they present some solid songs and good musicianship and I think this album would be to the liking of many metal-heads.
