Preach - Gasoline Veins album cover

PREACH is a Swedish Metal band based out of the city of Stockholm. Following the release of two Demo albums and an EP, the band presents their first full-length album entitled "Gasoline Veins." The album here contains ten tracks. The title track, "Gasoline Veins," leads off the album, with a heavy rocking swagger and a vocal delivery that is rooted in Death Metal. They thicken up the chorus with some additional guitar harmonies. "Dead Die Young" hears the raucous energy continue, like a party of rabid zombies suddenly brought back to life, locked in a room with only one human to fight over. "Gold Rush" leads in with some suspenseful acoustic work before the main riff kicks in. The pace remains quickened and I am starting to feel like the live show for this band would be something else. A more traditionally extended chorus really provides some depth to the track. "Come to Pass" is perhaps a little slower and with a heavier and deeper bottom end, but it still makes a nice impact. "Erased by the New Day" is an interesting track as well, exploring a few different riffs and keys that seem to connect in an odd manner, yet with more listens make better sense. I at least appreciate some of the stretching that this causes because it keeps things fresh.

"Coin Flip Omen" has some especially nifty guitar work both in the riff and with dual harmonic lead sections, really driving the sound of this song. This is also the best chorus on the album...just brilliantly done. "Mine to Direct" closes the album. The soft lead-in of acoustic guitar with just the right amount of reverb sets a mood that I wish would have lingered a while. Still, the main riff is hard, heavy and bossy and the track as a hole is well done. Stylistically I believe PREACH has carved out their own little niche with this new album, combining elements of Classic and NWOBHM with a more modern Melodic Death tinge to it. The lack of any clean singing certainly supports the latter. If I could offer any constructive criticism it would be to continue to focus on strengthening or expanding the chorus sections of their tracks with a little more melody, because they certainly don't lack in musicianship or riff writing. Though I also appreciate clean singing every now and again, I wouldn't change a thing here with the vocals. They are gritty, deep and thick, and resonate with you fully. This is an honest and well-oiled first full-length release for the band, and I would look forward to hearing future efforts.
