PORTRAIT is an original Heavy Metal band that needs no introduction among the underground music circles. Coming from Kristianstad, Sweden, PORTRAIT have left a mark with the debut self-titled album 2 years ago and several live appearances across Europe, making a noticeable presence. After a couple of lineup changes, PORTRAIT now present new material with Per Karlsson behind the microphone, standing between King Diamond's, early Paul Di Anno's and Eric Adams' readings, fact that's quite promising and refreshing, as much as interesting. "The Murder of All Things Righteous" Ep is a sample of the band's skills and potentials...
Unfortunately, we have only two tracks in our disposition and the conclusions can not be safe; "Son Of All Graves" give us a simple example of how pure Heavy Metal should be played today and the guitar work makes the first step, showing us the real thing with the characteristical twin riffing. Two up-tempo tracks that reminding me a lot MERCYFUL FATE's glorious days, having as a guide line the old school Heavy Metal of the 80s. Listen closely to the riff's change in the fourth minute of "Son Of All Graves": dark and anxious atmosphere in complete harmony of occult high riffing tunes with the main theme staying at the background.
Without any doubt, "The Murder Of All Things Righteous" Ep is the best material PORTRAIT has offered us so far and this reason is enough for waiting a full-length release. Thank Heavy Metal God, the list with the recent bands that supports 80s old school sound is endless: WOLF, HELVETETS PORT, IN SOLITUDE, PORTRAIT...
