All Input Is Error
Pomegranate Tiger
Martin Andres, the creative musical force behind the band, along with his Swiss army knife sideman guitarist Matt Shaheen, a Canadian Instrumental Progressive Metal project, embark on a captivating musical journey with their experimental masterpieces. The group prepares to unleash their innovative soundscapes titled "All Input Is Error" on Sept 7, 2023. The album has ten songs.
"Devils to Ourselves" is first. It's an interesting sound. At first, there are dark notes and tones, followed by melodic structures, almost like watching a storm pass by you and sunshine coming out at the end. "Dagger Dance" has a really heavy bottom end, with fuzzy, distorted keyboards and guitars, and some funky electronics. But they also have a tender side...as evidenced by the clean passage towards the end...it is as pure as driven snow. "The Great Filter" has some smooth tones that are obliterated by heavy rhythmic accents and even some effects. Try to count the meter here...it is an exercise in futility. Much of this song is a display of some fine musicianship.
"Poison Pill" has a weighted cadence out of the gate with some Djent accents. One thing that the band does very well so far is the transitions in and out of aggressiveness with melody. They are nearly seamless. "The Cryptographer" has even heavier accents that straddle a melody line that you need to strap in and hang onto with dear life. "Metasphere" has more accessible melodies, and lead harmonies. The bottom end of the song is still fierce, but it breathes a bit more. "Burn the Spirit" shows a band that can handle smooth melodies and ardent, Djent tones that fulfill the heavier side of your psyche.
"False Dawn" is yet another very well-balanced song. There is a big helping of meaty, aggressive tones, and also plenty of sugar poured over top. The heavy accents fuel your need to break things while the ethereal elements calm you down. The title track is a gentle acoustical number with some sad tones. But, within the sadness, there is beauty. It segues into the closing number, "Keyways," which is another smooth offering where the edges have been buffed clean. Overall, this was an album that combined the best elements of musicianship with an energetic performance. The duo does not shy away from aggression in their music, but also pay attention to melody, and the development of structures. This is heavy enough for Metalheads, but also sweet enough for those of us who appreciate that.
