Planet Alliance - Planet Alliance album cover

This thing with supergroups goes back in time, even if  - back then - it would be a matter of high interest to see some well-known musicians collaborating on a common album. In our days, these projects are so usual that can nearly draw our attention, while the terms 'supergroup' and 'superstar' are of lower amplitude. Hence, Planet Alliance's summoning has little chances of receiving some overwhelming feedback.
Producer Anders Theander 'assembled' this band with a set of highly-acclaimed Swedish musicians. Mike Andersson (Cloudscape) and Magnus Karlsson (Last Tribe, Starbreaker, Allen/Lande Project) started to compose songs one year ago, while Bob Daisley (Gary Moore, ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and Janne Stark (Locomotive Breath, Overdrive) helped the completion. Anders Johansson (Hammerfall, ex-Yngwie J. Malmsteen) and Jaime Salazar (Last Tribe, Allen/Lande Project, ex-Flower Kings) shared the drum kit while Magnus Rosen (Hammerfall) and Daisley handled the bass. Carl-Johan Grimmark (Narnia, Rob Rock), Mattias IA Eklundh (Freak Kitchen), Janne Stark and Karlsson himself delivered the six-string 'dirty job' while Mike Andersson was the lone singer in this album.
Someone can easily predict what style this album lays upon, just by the bands everyone plays with. A mix between Swedish melodic Hard Rock and European neo-Power Metal, Planet Alliance sees a powerful rhythm section supporting a variety of riffing and soloing, while lots of keys complete a 'fat' sound, living no objections for malfunctions in the album's production or the musicians' performance. As for Andersson: the guy sings first-class, he definitely deserves to gain recognition.
Musicianship: on the other hand - is not the 'ace' of this project. Bring every single band from Sweden (or Central Europe) that's 'occupied' with melodic Hard Rock/Heavy metal and you got the picture: Hammerfall, Edguy, Freedom Call, At Vance, Evergrey, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ayreon and the list goes on and on.
Planet Alliance is a good album, but I do not know how many times you will be able to hear it, since it has none of a 'personality' basis. If you have enough money to give away...
