Hailing from the land of Greece comes the Herculean Death Metal band PLAGUE and their album "Portraits Of Mind". This album is chock full of fantastic riffs, vocals and drum work. So far this year, this has been one of my most awaited albums. The band is made up of George Karaberi on Drums, Apostolis Kiriazis on Guitar, Nikolaos Konstas on Vocals and Guitar as well as George Katsanos on Bass. This album is honestly one that everyone should have in their collection.
The album begins with the song "Intersperse" which ultimately sets the pace for the whole album. The slamming riffs and the incredible drum beats will drag you in and then the vocals hit you like a ton of bricks. This song was a fantastic opener and gives you an idea of what you have gotten yourself into. Next up we have "Portal Into Reality" which is even more incredible than the previous song. This song has the OSDM feel as well as a modern touch. This song really reminded me of a mix between BLOODBATH and DYING FETUS. "Pandemic" switches it up ever so slightly but keeps it Death. I was honestly blown away by this song as it shows a wide range of the talent the band has. "Deranged Madness" is by far one of the best songs on the album. The way they change up the tempo seamlessly is incredible. I definitely recommend this track for sure.
Next we have "Cave Of Vectors" which was another that really hit me. I completely fell in love with this track because it has everything that made me love Death Metal in the first place. Another thing that I love about this album so far is that the songs are just long enough to fulfill your Metal cravings but not so long as to lead you to boredom. "Shattering The Illusion" was absolutely amazing and had me doing the windmill even though I don't have long hair. This song made me just want to get up and start a pit with myself. The final song which also happens to be the longest is "Mind Control". This song is probably my favourite out of all of them. It was for sure the most insane song on the album and I could listen to it repeatedly for quite some time.
"Portraits Of Mind" is an incredible journey through what I would consider a Death Metal masterpiece. Every track was unique in their own way. These guys did a phenomenal job on this album and I for sure look forward to hearing more from them in the future. Redefining Darkness Records honestly has one of my now top Death Metal acts and I'm sure they will help guide them to greatness.
