PHARAOH is an American Power Metal band that delivers a lot in the "No-Bullshit department", and that is made clear right from the beginning on their forthcoming latest album "Bury The Light". In a time where there really is no shortage of good Power Metal bands; it's always nice to get acquainted with one I haven't heard before. Especially if I find one in my hemisphere; allowing the possibility to see them live at some point in the future.
There's not much to describe in terms of what is specifically good about PHARAOH as a band. Essentially, if you've ever heard good Power Metal; you can identify PHARAOH as such. There's nothing special, but they are very easy to listen to and enjoy. Tim Aymar's voice is kind of in the Ralf Scheepers / Rob Halford / Tim Owens category, with a little bit more rasp. So if you're annoyed by that style, you might not dig it. It works for me though. The rest of the band is pretty standard, run-of-the-mill Power Metal. They don't do anything unique, but they do what they do very well.
"Bury The Light" is overall a very listenable album. It starts off solid with "Leave Me Here To Dream", and carries on well until about the point of "Cry"; where it starts to lose steam a bit. It finishes strong though with "In Your Hands" which blends right into the cleverly executed "The Spider's Web" reprise which serves as the album's Outro.
There isn't much info about where you can find this record, other than the label's webstore. There's no price listed, but it would appear that the average CD on that website goes for about 12 Euros ($15.75), and while I think it's a tad steep for a CD these days; I'd probably buy it if I knew how good it was (which is what this review is for).
"Bury The Light" is a solid full-length record that you folks in Europe can expect out February 24th, and those of us in the United States, and Canada can get it on March 6th. So if you're curious check out their bandcamp page, and listen to the single "Castles In The Sky". If you dig it, buy the album. You'll dig the rest of it.
