And here I go again with another 80s Death Metal driven piece, and this time it shares no similarities with the late pioneer iconic band DEATH, but rather to the morbid and blasphemous rituals of some of the early brutal acts in the genre. Such vehemence as the early KRISIUN / early SEPULTURA / early MORBID ANGEL / SINISTER and the overseers SLAYER as one of the prime influential testimonials of this young Portuguese act named PESTIFER. A little while ago the trio Death Metal devotees unleashed their debut album "Execration Diatribes", via Lavadome Productions, entertaining with the idea that old school Death Metal is coming back in full swing to obliterate and destroy.

Essentially, "Execration Diatribes" is an all-around assault, leaving no stone unturned. Such utmost intensity from top to bottom, as if releasing their dismay and disgust in one single brutal attack, might be noticeable in the modern fashion of Death Metal, nonetheless, PESTIFER demonstrates that there is nothing more painful than witnessing them devour with their corrosive music. Even if not in the best of qualities, PESTIFER are showcasing the true spirituality behind the Death Metal subgenre, meaty, destructive force, blasphemous and chaotic. Filled with energies that never ceases to deplete, the trio charge with fast paced rhythms, tremolo action and solid palm muted low tuned riffery, establishing a slight melodic front and classic oriented soloing that once was integral in the genre. As a riff fan, these guys shared some intense examples that truly made a mark, even if I already heard them before. Furthermore, through their constant butchery manner, it is possible to feel their conviction and motivation for the music, one of the aspects that I liked about this crew and might return me back to listening to their next album.

The songwriting is basically the creation of chaos, simply a whirlwind that in time changes its speed and direction towards its next target. "Riding the Storms of Hate" and "Enslavement of God" proved that there is something to look forward for from this crew of three, demonic brutal chants of putrid Death Metal, always on the run for the next demolition task, ever rigid and musically perfected. I would also recommend: "Mars Exult", "Brutal Eruption of Chaos" and "Confront Death". Of course that every now and then there is a staggering solo section of the SLAYER origin that is also an attention grabber, so get ready.

Something wicked this way comes from Portugal, and I am interested to get to know it better next time around.
