The Glorious Persecution
Persecutory
Extreme Metal genres can be like water sometimes, or in other words, can adapt themselves and penetrate into cracks in countries without or with little tradition on them. Everyone knows that Turkey is a modern democracy (and a secular state without official religion), but in a country with problems to deal with human rights and a great part of its population (estimated 90% of it) being religious, it’s a bit strange to hear a band as PERSECUTORY. With such picture in mind, it’s not a sin to face “The Glorious Persecution” as an act of courage.
Recorded, mixed & mastered by Emre Bingöl and Can Gelgeç, the idea was to shape a brutal and aggressive sonority that could embrace all the elements of the quartet’s music. The result is something filthy and nasty, but defined in a way that’s not hard to understand what the band is expressing. And the band has as guest on the additional vocals on the choruses Emre Bingöl. The darkened and evil artwork is a creation of Alex Shadrin (of Nether Temple Design), and shapes what musically is expressed. The band uses a Black/Death Metal outfit that is filled with aggressiveness and weight, as an updated version of what SARCÓFAGO did on “I.N.R.I.”. It means that fast tempos and brutal blast beats and double bass parts of the drums are supported by strong bas splaying, while the guitars spew insane guitar riffs (and some excellent arrangements), as the vocals screams and fill the instrumental parts with shadowy lyrics. And it’s filled with massive energy, so be prepared!
“The Glorious Persecution” is an EP, with “Infernal Gateways to Watchers” (insane contrasts on the rhythms, with massive weight being unleashed by bass guitar and drums), “Ecstatic Demonlords” (the contrasts between fast and slow parts are great, and the insane growls and screams of the vocals are amazing, indeed) and “The Glorious Persecution” (a great exhibition of manic guitar riffs and arrangements, and some Hardcore touches can be heard in some moments) lasting more than 7 minutes, but the hearers will never get bored of them. It’s really a fine set, indeed.
“The Glorious Persecution” is a fine and courageous EP, and it can hurry PERSECUTORY for a new full-length as soon as possible!
