Resurgence

Perpetua

Stylistically, for me, it’s a cross between Metalcore and Deathcore with intelligent Progressive elements blended into the music, and the album is designed to overwhelm the listener’s senses with a power driven straightforward without mercy, or regret.

Try as I may, I could not find any information about this UK band…I tried their record label, their PR firm, and their Facebook, as well as The Metal Archives, but to no avail. So we are going to have to let the music do the talking on this one.  The album has ten songs, and the title track is first. It’s a short instrumental mood-setter, and the mood is somber and ominous. “Resolve” is the first proper track. It has a heavy and complex rhythm, with a powerful groove. Thick bass notes pluck underneath, and the vocals are harsh. “The Hell it Brings” is another heavy banger, with thick guitar accents and devastating harsh vocals. Again, the rhythms are quite complex but oh so accessible, and the band does an effective job of driving home the chorus.

“Tethered” is another burner, and the band shows no sign of slowing down. The pace is very fast, the rhythms are aggressive, and the vocals are the icing on the cake. “Overcome” hears the pacing slow a bit, so that the punishing groove can be driven deep into your soul, and deep it is driven, indeed. “Human” has some more exploratory guitar riffs that dive and duck here and there but don’t stray from the path. The ends of the guitar riffs rise sharply to accent the heavy vocals. “Trapped Mind” is another song that goes straight for your throat, and the band steps firmly on the gas pedal and keep in there for the duration of the song. The clean vocals come through strong in the chorus and stick in your memory as well.

“This is Retribution” has an evil twinge from the guitars, and the tone is thick and bossy. As the title suggests, this song sounds like what one might hear when they picture the meaning of the word retribution. “Forsaken” is another pedal to the metal song that the band just obliterates all obstacles in their path like a tank rolling over uneven ground. It doesn’t matter what is in its path, it will destroy and keep heading. “Alone in the Static” closes the album, and it’s another brutal offering with fanciful guitar riffs, and some nice cleans in the chorus. Stylistically, for me, it’s a cross between Metalcore and Deathcore with intelligent Progressive elements blended into the music, and the album is designed to overwhelm the listener’s senses with a power driven straightforward without mercy, or regret.
