PALACE OF THE KING is a Bluesy Rock'n'Roll with heavy Psychedelic elements that formed in late 2012 in Australia. They quickly recorded a three track demo with the intention of creating the six-piece "blues-infused rock and roll band". 2015 brings the release of the "White Bird/Burn the Sky", their debut "proper" CD release. They guys have a vinyl LP that was previously releases, but with this release, they can reach a much larger fan base. "White Bird/Burn the Sky" comes in with ten tracks and a listening time of just under 45 minutes.
First listen through: I get a JACK WHITE meets LED ZEPPELIN combination. From vocals to music, the uniqueness is a refreshing take on a more popular Rock sound. Track one "Take Your Medicine" starts with a Groovy intro that turns to a bass filled and low guitars beauty. It sort of a cryptic beginning to an upbeat album; there is a bass solo in the middle of the track that is completely unexpected but wonderful. There is also a guitar solo after the bass, which is something expected but was perfectly complimenting to the bass. A Bluesy vocal completes the track. A vocal that goes after my own heart, because unique vocals hold a spot in my heart, and these go there, every time.
Track two, "No Chance in Hell" and track three, "Another Thing Coming", are the two tracks on the album that set the tone. They are similar in such different ways that these tracks are where you get to know the band. The tracks are fun, energetic, and thoughtfully written. Track four, "Burn My Bridges", is another lower tone track that has a dark vocal and an even darker sound. While the course does pep up, the rest of the track stays pretty low and almost tribal-esque.
Other honorable tracks on "White Bird/Burn the Sky" are "White Bird (Bring Your Armies Against Me), "Leave Me Behind", and "Get Back Up (Burn the Sky)". Each have a different element that makes it stand out, however, I am most impressed with the Super Blues Groove these tracks have. "Get Back Up (Burn the Sky)" has a harmonica. Does Rock get any more Blues than that? I don't think so.
PALACE OF THE KING is the modern music meets old elements. It brings back a nostalgia that modern music tends to skip, but there are tons of elements that have this hodge podge of Blues, Rock, and Metal music more modern than ever. If you are a fan of a good Rock'n'Blues, "White Bird/Burn the Sky" is for you.<
