On the Outskirts of Hades

I have only listened to a few songs of PAGANIZER before and I have been impressed by the sound, but for some reason I haven't been able to dig any of the band's records in full, so I thought this new EP by these Swedish Death Metallers should be a good time to check these lads out. "On the outskirts of hades" is releasing this August 1st.
The EP starts with "Angry all the time" which has a very eerie old school Death Metal guitar sound, and the vocals are of typical PAGANIZER growling nasty In-Your-Face Death Metal vocals. By keeping the tempo not too fast, the band allows the groove of the riff to be extended for that split second and one can enjoy the beauty of PAGANIZER in those juicy Death Metal riffs. "Adjacent to purgatory" almost sounds like a train wreck with its atmospheric and chaotic sound at the same time. Often times, I have criticized bands for making the sound too chaotic, but PAGANIZER gets their shit right here as the chaos is actually beautiful, thanks to the innovative and fast paced groovy riffs. The eerie sounding riff continues with "The netherworld carnival" but what impresses me with this song is that it sounds more hummable and sounds more promising to be a crowd favorite in the band's live shows. The band does a great job at getting the right mix of the eerie sounding riffs and the parts where the song goes chaotic and mayhem. The last song on offer and the EP's title track "On the outskirts of hades" is another train wreck that plummets through your ears and is one that will make you headbang instantly and as I often said earlier in this review, the riffs and the vocals here are nothing but bliss for the seasoned Death Metal fans.
The only problem that I have with "On the outskirts of hades" is that it is just 13 min and will make you want for more. Although this record is not groundbreaking or the best on offer in the genre, it does exactly what it promises. Interestingly I found on Metal Archives that these lads have already released another EP "The Portal" earlier this year. This is a 13 minutes fun ride for both old and new fans of the band.
