Defiled By Evil

OUR HATE has released their new EP "Defiled by Evil" through Sliptrick Records. This Belgium metal outfit prides itself on creating raw music without the bells and whistles of technology. This approach to the raw sound gives the band a very brutal, in-your-face presence. This second release from OUR HATE builds upon that approach and helps to solidify the sound that they are developing.
"Speak To Me" hits you hard kicking off the EP. The brutal instrumentals give way to powerful vocals that transition into clean ones during the chorus. The instrumentals and vocals blend very well in this track, featuring diverse elements. The guitar riffs are at a lightning pace giving the song a driving force on which to build on. "Defiled by Evil" has an anthemic feel as the guitar riffs really set the stage for a powerful track. The vocal performance gives the song a viciousness that is prevalent throughout the EP. It also shows off the Hardcore elements that are incorporated throughout OUR HATE's latest release. "Together As One" is a brutal wall of sound that expands on the elements utilized by the band. Midway they even throw in a well-crafted guitar solo. The vocals also change slightly in this track opening up another layer of diversity for the song.
"Remorse of a Serialkiller" is a weird one for me. This track sounds good but the riffs begin to become repetitive, as they are used in some of the other tracks. While this track does provide a strong continuity of the EP and it is well done, I feel like this song doesn't stand out in the EP. Musically, this track is heavy and follows that same brutal line as with all the songs on this EP. "Punisher" rounds out this brutal release. The name of the track actually defines this song very well. The sound is punishing, in a good way. The riffs are heavy, savage and paired with venomous vocals that give the song that brutal, crushing vibe. The only thing is that, again, it doesn't really keep me interested throughout the entirety of the track.
All in all, "Defiled by Evil" is decent. This release from OUR HATE follows the promise of sound they are making. No frills and raw. This a commendable quality for a band and I think that they have done a decent job in capturing that with their music. I really liked this EP at the beginning but the deeper I listened to it, it seemed to fade for me. To me the sound seemed to blend together to the point that the individuality of the tracks themselves was lost. Now I'm not taking away from their sound at all by saying this. You can definitely tell that OUR HATE is very talented. If you like heavy, savage music, then I think this may find its way to your playlists. I would recommend listening to the EP if you are a fan of the Hardcore genre.
