Ossuaire - Le Troubadour Necrophageophile (Reissue) album cover

Formed in 2000, French Death Metallers OSSUAIRE recently re-released "Le Troubadour Necrophageophile" consisting of five tracks, all equally as heavy and twisted as the next! Involving lyrical themes of blood, gore and medieval torture, they don't stray away from the dark and gruesome genre many of us are so fond of.

The first thing that stood out in this album has to be the dark, gurgling vocals that assist the varying drumming. This seems remarkable to me, as I always admire anyone who has the ability to perform both at the same time. Fortunately, Le Kyste possesses that talent! The musicianship stays pretty close to the likes of early MORBID ANGEL with its chuggy, constant guitar work and bashing drums. Their fourth track "Necrofistum Prima Nocte", contains every element of that grisly Death Metal sound, interchanging rhythms, blast beats and an overall old school sound. The final grim-titled track on this demo "Trolla Infectum Phallus" embraces some solid vocal patterns and guitar and drum rhythms. This track also uses short vocal breaks towards the end, upholding torturous sound effects to contribute to their violent and insanely twisted sound.

I would have perhaps liked to hear some more tracks to get a grasp of what OSSUAIRE are all about. However, from a first listen of this Demo, I can understand vaguely what they are all about: making music as dark, twisted and gruesome as ever and staying faithful to early 90s Death Metal. There is clearly no shortage of talent on this demo. Although I understand that they are respectfully maintaining that old sound, I can 't help but think that these tracks could have a bit more diversity, whether it's rhythm or tone. Regardless, this Demo is an honest attempt at recreating and modernising the old-school Death Metal genre that I'm pretty sure anyone who appreciates, would seriously enjoy!<
