Let me make this clear, this is not the usual Symphonic Metal, so if you are after something "common" please keep looking. ORISONATA, in their eponymous album, tried to fuse Gothic and Symphonic atmospheres with Jazz, Classical Guitars and so much more. The result is a solid work, with many qualities that outweigh the few flaws.

The intro of the opening track, "Journey to the Center of the Earth", is a good example of how this album is going to sound like, following the boulevard bands like NIGHTWISH, KAMELOT, EPICA, EVANESCENCE and so on who are paved already but are still taking detours going on. There are high quality detours, like Jazz Piano in "Unholy Creation" or the Saxophone in "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and again the flutes in "The Muses", and amazing pre-choruses here and there throughout the whole album.

But the work has its flaws. Okay, we have to give credit to ORISONATA, they have been able to cover them pretty well. Despite that the song length not being unusual for the genre, all the tracks may result too long to the listener and maybe tedious. This isn't the case for me, but I experienced a feeling like that before so it may happen to everybody else. Also, Jennifer Grassman's vocals are great but they don't seem fully exploited during the work.

ORISONATA produced a great debut work, particular and original in a genre in which you can hear people saying "Well this has been done already. They all sound the same". Just too many times. My only hope is that they won't just keep using the same recipe that worked with this album but they will keep evolving. But surely, after this start, expectations are high and this band is absolutely worth checking out.
