Organic Illusion - Invisible album cover

Formed in 2008 in Porto San Giorgio, Italy, ORGANIC ILLUSION play their own brand of what they call Curvy Metal, a very modern take on a groove laden Thrash-like Metal, honed in on two previous releases, one EP and one long player "The Linear Chaos". Their sound is very modern.  For example the intro "Pieces" launches into "Invisible Man", which mixes a noughties vibe, especially in the vocal department, with an old school twin guitar attack.

This trend continues with "Take Me Away", and "Inside Of Me" which is a very groovy, hook laden beast of a song.  "For The Grace Of God" is an aggressive stomp with an old school mosh keeping company with a new school approach, particularly in the death growled vocals, a true hybrid. "The Hero Of The Day", has a super catchy vocal and chorus, and the band sounds really tight, some superb guitar work.  You could almost describe this as straight ahead metal song, or a curvy metal song might be a better description.

"Wash Away The Pain" is a mid-paced rocker, again a showcase to Giacomo's vocal range, from a scream to a growl and snarl, all used to perfection, and some suitable heavy guitar licks, over a tight rhythm section. The next song "Darkness Fall", has so much going on, perhaps too much. It has the feel of having the kitchen sink chucked at it, and unfortunately misses the mark, becomes muddled.

However the next 3 songs, "But I Don't Know", "Alone" and "Feel No Mersey", are the three strongest songs on the album.  All very classy Metal tunes delivered with passion and style. My personal favorite being "But I Don't Know," a very old school song, built on some great bass work and another fine, but more traditional vocal. "Alone" is more modern, but with a good old fashioned guitar solo, and a damn fine groove.  And last of the three "Feel No Mercy" is a blend of old and new, and showcases the bands strengths very well.

Which leaves us with "Last Night," and incredible, lo-fi, downbeat acoustic song of pain and misery.  A hugely powerful song, which is the mark of a truly magnificent song that illustrates its strengths can survive being stripped down to the bone and still invoke such strong emotions. A fine album, well produced with a finely balanced sound.  A tad too modern in places for these old ears, but an album I could happily listen to again.
