Malignancy

Onslaught Kommand

If you love extreme music at its most natural form, the Death/Grindcore work of this Chilean quartet is for you.

A Metal genre can become a musical ideology when a band has its own convictions about creating its music and recording its releases, and no matter what anyone could say. It’s a closed ideology that no one (only the band’s member) have access; but at the same time, such fact creates a link between band and fans that can be torn apart with the slight change on the musical work. Maybe this is the reason that drives what the Chilean Black/Death quartet ONSLAUGHT KOMMAND, as heard on “Malignancy”, their latest full-length.

As wrote on their review of their past release, their EP “Visions of Blood and Gore” (yes, I’m the same one who wrote it), the band use a Death/Black Metal outfit in the way of acts as SARCÓFAGO (on “Warfare Noise” and “I.N.R.I.” days of alcohol excesses) and BLASPHEMY, but plenty of influences of influences inherited from Hardcore and D-Beat (hear to “Born to be Deformed” to hear them clearly), and Grindcore and Old School Death Metal (it’s not a sin so assume that AUTOPSY and PUNGENT STENCH have a crush on their work). It’s something to brutalize ears and melt brains, but done with an honest insight.

Once more the band uses a rough and putrid sonority, with noisy and brutal instrumental tunes (that seems to be recorded in the most organic form possible). It’s not so hard to understand what the band plays, but it could be better. But as they chose to do things in this way, it’s their own ideology, their own idea of how making their music, so no one can interfere in this point. And as shocking as their music is the cover created by Brian Paulin.

If you’re not into the gory and filthy sound ways, “Malignancy” isn’t for you; but for those that love such approach, “Elite Hunting Gore” (the rusty and filthy outfit doesn’t hide very good tempo changes), “Pissrot Humillation” (A pure mix between Grindcore and D-Beat influences), “Third World Stoning”, “Becoming a Gut Pile” (fine contrasts between growls and screams with noisy guitars), “Born to be Deformed”, “Satanic Storming” (massive blast beats and insane tempos are heard here), “Backyard of Corpses”, “Pervert Goat Kommand” (the crossing between Old School Death Metal and Grindcore influences resulted in such bastard and good song with noisy and strong playing on bass guitar and rums), “Morbid Warfare”, “Inside the Mutilator’s Bunker”, “What’s in the Abyss?” (be careful with your ears due the sickening guitars), “Carbonized at the Lynching Tree” (the catchy mix between Grincore and Hardcore influences is really excellent), “One Trench - Several Dead Bodies” and “Axis of the Unholy Power” are mandatory songs.

To deal with “Malignancy” can be a matter of ‘love it or hate it’, but it seems that ONSLAUGHT KOMMAND wants to keep things to be in this way.
