Although they are based in the Netherlands, upon listening, you would swear they were from the NOLA scene. In fact, ONEGODLESS self-describe their sound as "HeavyStonerBluesGroovyRockSludgeMetal," and I can't really think of a more accurate description.  Think of bands like PANTERA, LAMB OF GOD, PISSING RAZORS, COC, and CROWBAR, mash their sounds all together and you will probably have a decent idea as to what they sound like.  Yes, it has been all done before but what hasn't?  It isn't what you do but how you do it.  ONEGODLESS do it right and they do it oh so heavy. If you like fat guitar riffs with insane amounts of groove this alum might as well become the best thing you have heard this year.   Much like Anselmo, Blythe, and Windstein, vocalist Pieter Verpaalen has a voice that isn't really clean but it isn't a true extreme vocal.  He is caught somewhere in that sweet spot and it is very effective. The highlight of the album, of course, is Yordi Lopez and his insane riffs—I don't think this guy can run out of things to play.  The crushing, blues influenced groove will make not just your whole head bang but your entire body.  I can only imagine how crushing these riffs would be in a live setting and how insane the pit would be.

"The Calm," is anything but.  The rapid fire riffing, combined with Zielhorst's miles deep bass hits you like a ton of bricks.  The drums have a lot of going on for this type of sound; drummer Eekelen has an uncanny ability to keep the beat but wander off the beaten path a bit. "Salvation," starts with a near thrash attack and the song hurtles forward with short bursts of rapid fire riffs but quickly settles back into a hammering groove. The next track, "My Blood," features some of the best grooves on the album and the song ends on a high point with some dense and twisting guitars accompanied by some hellish screams.  Unfortunately, the band does become monotonous somewhat. Despite their influences, they don't have the flashy playing of PANTERA, the despair of CROWBAR, or the energy of LAMB OF GOD.   There isn't much in the way of melody or variety, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your tastes of course.  For me, personally, the songs do tend to run together a bit and I had some trouble listening straight thru.  However, I don't want to dismiss the talent of this band-for four or five songs at a time, this album does indeed rock.
