The Rotted Plinth of Sachiel
Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy
In the past, bands as REPULSION, CARCASS, MORTICIAN, IMPETIGO and others helped to create what can be called Goregrind, and opened ways to the creation of Brutal Death Metal as well. And besides both ways, from time to time, converge to one single form of extreme expression of Death Metal, such experience can be extremely unswallow for many Metal fans, even if they're into extreme Metal ways. And on the Canadian duet called ONCHOCERCIASIS ESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENOSCOPY (that from this point on this review will be called OE) work, it takes time and patience to understand what they're up to with "The Rotted Plinth of Sachiel", their first album
On the band's musical work, the listeners will find weird and extreme form of playing Brutal Death Metal/Goregrind that has some experimental touches. It's truly hard to be swallowed, with extreme low grunts contrasting with screams and snarls, a slow approach on the guitar and bass playing (besides the drums are fast in many moments). It's not something unusual on such genre, but the band has personality (besides some of the duet's ideas seem dispersive sometimes). The production obeys the same ideas used before: putrid and raw to be organic, but not in a way that their musical expression could be damaged by such extreme approach. And the tunes of the musical instruments could be better (sorry, but such annoying sound on the snare drums can be usual on such genre, but still is something too weird).
Although the band must sharpen its musical ideas in a better way in the future, the fans from such nasty extreme Metal genre will love songs as "The Rotted Plinth of Sachiel", "Bloodroot & Blazing Sun" (this one is full of experimental touches), "Flayed Tellurian Husk" (piledriving tempos, indeed), "Alluvial Maelstrom of Frenzied Self-Mutilation", and "Profane Psalms Carved Into the Palms of God". They're their best shots.
Once more: OC needs to mature a bit more, because they have potential to become a strong name of the genre, but they need to understand that, to face bands as MORTICIAN and EXHUMED, masters into such genre, they must evolve. But the duet can do it.
