The Gates Of Dawn

The newly-formed Irish-American duo OLDE have recently released their debut album entitled "The Gates of Dawn", defining their sounds as a sort of Pagan / Atmospheric Black Metal. The guys stated: "We are for the regression back to the days of virtuous pride and honor of the Elders." and this pretty much sums up everything about the band. However, OLDE not only revives the heyday of the Old-school, but also adds a subtle modern touch to it.
As you might expect from a band of this subgenre, this record sounds harsh, rough and raw with its dust devil riffs and breakneck fast drumming, yet sometimes ornamented with keyboard melodies and orchestrations that might be reminiscent of SUMMONING, conjuring a grim, cold atmosphere. This can be mainly heard in tracks like "Silver Hooks and Blood". There's a touch of early DISSECTION in here as well. "13 Winters" is kind of the most interesting track for me because of the Doomy riffing. This also adds to the diversity of the material on this album, it's not only some raw Black Metal thrown in there. It's complemented and enhanced with occasional variations and ornaments that keep the whole thing from feeling tedious or hard to listen to.
Overall, I think this is an album that any fan of the genre can easily get into.
