OLD BONES is a Melodic Death/ Stoner Rock band, from Long Island, New York, USA. This is their debut EP entitled "Sleepwalker" which contains 5 tracks. The opener "Elegy" relies on dissonance and guitar melodies. While that may sound contradictory, they are 2 elements that can easily be mixed together. In some ways, the overall sound does have that Swedish melodic death metal vibe, somewhere between GARDENIAN and SCAR SYMMETRY with a tinge of clean vocals that are more in the WITCHCRAFT genre. The entire song runs smoothly and has a great combination of aggression and catchy riffs.

"Invaders" for me has a lot more of the groovy side we have known to appreciate from the more modern stoner bands in the last 10 years or so. For those who are familiar with SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, the cleaner passages are very much in that vein. As was the case with the first song, there is also a very gritty side to the track, especially with the rough vocals and the dirty-sounding guitars. The darker side of their material is much more evident in "Sleepwalker" which takes a bit more to settle into its heavier parts. The song is slower and dives into a more ARCH ENEMY approach (sometimes you could even say there are some metalcore influences). Yet again, the music is preserving that psychedelic 70s tone, especially in the dual vocal melodies and harmonies. It also packs quite a punch with its memorable chorus.

"Colossus" is the ultimate juggernaut on the album that just screams MOTORHEAD and still has a very distinct sound. The faster-paced bass grooves with death metal vocals is the kind of blend that will make your head bang in enjoyment. This is my favorite song on the EP mainly because of its intensity, but also very eclectic mood changes. Finally, we have the song on the album that just spits out amazing riffs and quality musicianship in "Sights and Sounds - Electric Frankenstein", it has that rocking vibe from start to finish, with more dueling vocal styles. If this song does not make you want to open the car window and blast the volume, I doubt anything will!

This is an amazing debut EP and I am sure these guys will be a powerhouse for the years to come. Be sure to check them out.
