Sten
Ocean Chief

It was difficult to find the words to talk about the fourth album by Doom / Sludge Metal Swedish band OCEAN CHIEF. It is necessary first to be prepared to receive a high dose of Metal, which in my opinion is not intended to be consumed in any state of mind.
Imagine that you are about to climb a steep mountain, and you don't know if you'll arrive at the summit or not, with stones slipping and risk every time to smash you. But every time you retrieve your courage and energy to follow your path, which still seems longer. This is exactly what I felt when I listened to "Sten", the name of the new album of the Swedish band, which means stone.
The adventure extends over four tracks relatively long, about 80 minutes total which is quite normal for this genre. The psychedelic influence is very present, with quiet passages and down tempo that reflects a profound thinking of the five band members. Indeed, the instrumental parts are the majority, and are supported with a raw guitar sound and a very present bass. The vocals are distributed in an unexpected way, which adds a parameter of surprise.
This album does not easily stick in the memory, it is possible to explore it each time with a different perspective, and this is its strongest character. A good area for fans of slow and majestic compostions.
