There are times when strange musical works arise from the depths of underground, and seems to defy the conceptions of all. There's nothing wrong with that, because Metal and every one of its genres were born from experimentation. There's no rule that 'you-must-play-as-I-say', so to follow others steps can be a sign of degradation. And although the Danish band (0) can sound a bit strange at first listen, (0) (the band's first album) is filled with a set of very good ideas.
It's technical and filled with a modern groove, but the band mixes influences from Progressive Metal, Black Metal and Drone Metal, and some Jazz Rock parts can be detected on the instrumental work (especially from bass guitar), and something more. Of course, that their work can sound a bit weird for those who aren't into experimental music into Metal (especially on extreme Metal genres), but their work bleeds pure energy and good taste. The production of (0) was done in a very good way. It reinforces the natural aggressiveness of their songs, but always keeping everything loud and clean, so the listeners can have the clear idea of what the band is up to. And the set of instrumental tunes used helps their songs to be understood, because the distortion isn't that noisy one that some bands love to use to sound organic.
The long "1136" is filled with many different parts, using very good rhythmic changes (and a good work from bass guitar can be heard in the form of Jazz touches); "336" has some variations on the rhythm as well, but the Hardcore early influence on Death Metal can be heard clearly on the guitar riffs, and the same appears on "441" (where the snarling vocals are doing a very good work). And "1212" is a climatic instrumental, filled with some effects and experimentation. Well, (0) has a lot to say, so hear (0) with care and patience to understand what these Danish guys are up to.
