O-Nun - The Shemanic Trilogy Pt. III - Transcendental album cover

Hailing from Brazil, 0-NUN means the absence of the cosmic liquid that gave birth to the Universe. It's an abyssal void that pictures all that has ever been but as if it never was. "The Shemanic Trilogy Pt 111 - Transcendental" is the third album in a trilogy that started with the first release in July, 2020. The album contains three tracks.

"Meticulously Measuring my Emptiness" leads off the album. It features a gun-fire drumming, anguished screams, and a plethora of riffs. As it rolls forward, eerie background sounds can be heard, and the darkness is deep and thick. I suppose you could loosely call this Black Metal. The genre has expanded so much in the past decade or so. It takes an ambient pause just after the half-way mark, but that sound of emptiness is ever-present.

"Towards the Infinite Dismay" opens with a darkness that unfolds slowly, with ominous notes in the background, and spoken words for vocals. What builds in the background is absolutely harrowing. The guitars create a dissonance that lessens somewhat after the opening. The drums are relentless, rolling forward like a steam engine of death, laying waste to everything in its path. Suddenly, a passage of melody comes out of nowhere, like a white lotus growing in the pit of Hades. But, the chaos returns.

"The Sound of Antimatter" closes the album. It begins with what sounds like flies swarming. Flies have long been used as a symbol of pestilence and filth. Slowly it builds, with clean guitar notes and some thunderous drumming. A sort of out-of-place passage of melody crops up, but it is soon replaced by vile vocal whispers and a variety of different riffs. It begins to sound mesmerizing towards the end.

This was an unusual album. The sounds that v0 id is able to invoke include some eerie dissonance, as well as what seems like out-of-place melodies. All the while, this vile Black Metal sound bubbles in the background at times, and in the foreground at other times. It's definitely something that is outside the box when it comes to the genre. If you like predicted structure in your music, this probably isn't for you. But if you appreciate odd and eerie sounds like I do, this is definitely worth your time.
